ALL POSTS FROM May 2008

tunes on friday

Alright, I’m going to try to limit this to once a week (although, the way I go through music, I’m not so sure it’ll stay that way). You’d be lucky if there was one post a month here that wasn’t me preaching about what you should listen to. Anywho, here’s a lineup of my favorite songs this week:

ALANIS MORISSETTE - UNDERNEATH
Another amazing track by Alanis. From what I’ve heard, I can say the same exact thing about her album. She’s managed to stay herself, and pump out new songs which are catchy

LADYTRON - TOMORROW
Although not the lead single off Velocifero, it’s still my favorite…or at least for now. Sure, I like Ghost, but this song seemed easier to fall in love with. The same as Witching Hour, this album is full of etheral synths and reverberated vocals, with a beautiful cover.

LIGHTS - ICE
I am so in love with this girl. I know my friends are sick of hearing it—and hearing me listening to it, but I can’t get enough of this song (or any of her songs, really). Her call-to-fame is providing music to the spring/summer Old Navy tv spots (and providing herself in the last ad), so there’s a good chance you’ve heard her.

PUSSYCAT DOLLS - WHEN I GROW UP
Don’t judge me. Okay, judge me. I am a sucker for a terrible pop song, especially if it is a. fierce or b. catchy. When I Grow Up is both, not very surprising when coming from PCD. I’m expecting this song to blow up on the radio this summer and be on the top of every 15 year old’s iTunes, just like all their other singles.

I have a ton of other things I keep putting on repeat, but you’ll just have to wait til next week. (Possibly as soon as tomorrow. Just kidding. …Maybe.)

BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

I’ve been waiting for this expansion all my life.

If you haven’t heard, the newest expansion pack for the Sims 2 (well, stuff pack) is going to be all furniture / home accessories based off real life Ikea things. All the favorites seem to be there: Malm, Poäng, Lack, Expedit, Klippan, and that creepy-ass heart pillow.

Naturally, I’ve been staring at the same screenshots and renders on the Sims site for the past week, drooling and counting down the days. There’s just one thing that bothers the hell out of me. Some objects are out of proportion. Take a look at the lack side table, in real life, it is slightly shorter than it is wide, but the Sims version is noticeably taller.

Also, the Malm beds aren’t as low as they appear in real life. I’m assuming there’s some sort of predefined height for all bed tops and table tops, so maybe that’s why they’re the way they are (perhaps if they were lower, objects set on top would hover at the preset height)? I have no idea how the Sims works, so that might be the reasoning—or the 3d modelers are just idiots.

Cue my friends reading this and calling me a nerd for bitching about this. But whatever. It’s my hot body (and birthday.

it’s a wonderful life

…for everyone except college students.

So you know, I just found out that EVEN THOUGH I made well over $3,000 this past year, because I am a student between the age of 17 and 24, I won’t be recieving a stimulus check from the government. Nor, will my parents be recieving any amount for me being considered a dependent. What is this? A Punishment?

Good thing the government considers dead grandmothers more of a contribution to society than young people who are trying to better themselves through education.
